CRIME in Devon and Cornwall will be driven down by additional funding from the Government according to Central Devon MP Mel Stride. Our force is set to receive an increase of £23.4 million compared to last year – an increase of 7.4%. Nationally, the police force will receive £1.1 billion – the largest increase in a decade. The funding will enable forces to recruit and train more police officers and invest in priorities like tackling serious and organised crime.
Mel said:
"Crime is now a third lower than it was a decade ago, and that has been achieved despite forces being asked to do more with fewer resources. With this additional funding police coverage in Devon and Cornwall will be improved and I am confident this will have a positive impact in our force’s ability to investigate crimes and bring criminals to justice.”
In addition to the amount given to individual forces, funding for counter-terrorism policing will rise by £90 million to £906 million. The latest funding settlement also provides £150 million to tackle serious and organised crime and £20 million for fighting the problem of county lines drug trafficking.
