Gender-Specific Religious Persecution

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for writing to me about gender-specific religious persecution of women and girls.

The Government takes religious freedom and women’s human rights very seriously, and considers these matters together:

‘[W]e recognise that women and girls from religious or belief minority communities can suffer disproportionally because of both their gender and faith. Our human rights policy work considers the multiple ways in which human rights interact, for example the importance of addressing issues such as child, early and forced marriage and forced conversion experienced by some women and girls from religious or belief minority communities.’ (Christianity: Females, WQ 49147; Leo Docherty MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, FCDO; 28 September 2022)

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely,

Mel Stride MP

MP for Central Devon
