Energy Charter Treaty

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for writing to me on the Energy Charter Treaty.

The responsible minister at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Rt Hon. Graham Stuart MP, has given the latest position:

‘The UK has been a strong advocate for modernising the Energy Charter Treaty, recognising the urgent need to align it with modern energy priorities, international treaty practice and commitments on climate change.

The Government is assessing the situation regarding Energy Charter Treaty modernisation, considering stakeholder views in business, civil society and Parliament. The Government will keep the House informed of relevant developments.’  (Energy Charter Treaty, WQ 186184; Rt Hon. Graham Stuart MP, Minister of State, DESNZ; 30 May 2023)

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely,

Mel Stride MP

MP for Central Devon
