Sir Mel Stride, MP for Central Devon, visited E & JW Glendinning in Ashburton to meet with the senior leadership team and discuss the challenges facing the mineral products and quarrying industry.
The company outlined concerns around falling demand for construction materials, rising operational costs and the implications of recent rises in National Insurance and regulatory changes for family‑owned businesses.
Sir Mel said: "Glendinning is a very important local employer and plays a vital role in the regional supply chain. Today’s discussion provided a clear picture of the pressures the sector is facing, and I will continue to fight on the issues they raised."
Managing Director Barry Wilson said: "We appreciated the opportunity to brief Sir Mel on the challenges affecting our business and the wider industry. With construction demand at historic lows, support and engagement from policymakers is more important than ever."
