The Highwayman’s Haunt in Chudleigh had a special visit on Friday from local MP Mel Stride who was in town to promote Small Business Saturday on 4th December.
Mr Stride was visiting the pub for the first time since it re-opened in August after a two year closure. He met with Phil Daysh and talked about the challenges local businesses are still facing as the country continues to combat Covid-19, particularly the hospitality and catering sector. Phil also explained how the pub is in the process of applying for planning for a licensed café and farm shop, and a 25-pitch campsite.
Phil said:
“It was great to welcome Mel to the Highwayman’s Haunt, show him what we’ve done with the place, and to talk through our exciting plans for a café, farm shop and campsite. Small businesses have had a tough time during the past two years, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel and we are very optimistic about our future.”
Mel added:
“It was great to see the Highwayman’s Haunt back open again. It is our small businesses, like the Highwayman’s Haunt, that make towns like Chudleigh such fantastic places to live and work. Collectively we can make a big difference to our local economy by shopping locally as often as we can and supporting our local pubs and cafés.”
Now in its ninth year in the UK, Small Business Saturday has grown significantly each year with a record £1.1 billion spent with small businesses on the day in 2020.
