Local success story Dartmoor Estate Tea spilled the tea on their remarkable 10-years with Central Devon MP, Mel Stride – who visited the business this week (14/03/2025) to celebrate the milestone.
Having written to founders Jo and Kathryn Harper to congratulate them on their 10th anniversary, the Shadow Chancellor was invited for a tour.
Nestled in the foothills of Dartmoor National Park, Dartmoor Estate Tea has been growing tea since 2015.
Jo and Kathryn discussed their business journey with Mel, himself an entrepreneur who has built businesses from scratch, before showing the Central Devon MP their impressive tea plantation.
Jo and Kathryn also shared a fascinating insight into their journey of growing British-grown tea in ‘the rich, acidic soils and fine moorland water that make the Dartmoor area so unique for cultivating this extraordinary crop.’
Mr Stride said: “Dartmoor Estate Tea has been producing its fine tea since 2015, and the Harpers’ dedication to the art of tea-making is evident in every cup.”
The Central Devon MP expressed his admiration for the business and its contribution to both the local economy and the wider British tea industry.
He said: “It’s fantastic to see local businesses like Dartmoor Estate Tea thriving, especially when they are working to put the UK on the map as a producer of high-quality tea. The Harpers’ passion for their craft is inspiring, and I look forward to supporting them in their continued success.”
Jo and Kathryn Harper, owners of Dartmoor Estate Tea said: “In celebration of Dartmoor Estate Tea’s 10th Anniversary we were delighted to receive a visit from Central Devon’s MP and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mel Stride. We toasted the forthcoming harvest with one of our award-winning teas and look forward to all that the next decade of our business brings.”
Visitors to the plantation can participate in a variety of experiences, from guided plantation tours to hands-on tea-making workshops.
