  • REVIEW INTO SUSTAINABILITY OF LOCAL PRESS WELCOMED BY CENTRAL DEVON MP

    Mel Stride

CENTRAL DEVON MP Mel Stride has welcomed the launch of a new review into press sustainability. The review will investigate the overall health of the news media, looking at the range of news available and how the press is adapting to the new digital market. It will consider the role and impact of online platforms such as Facebook and Google, and the digital advertising supply chain. A key focus of the review will be ensuring the future of local and regional press, which face an uncertain future.

    Mr Stride said:

“Local papers are vital to the communities they cover. They help highlight important local issues, hold power to account, play an important role in supporting the regional economy and promote the work of local organisations and charities. They are a crucial part of any healthy democracy and are valued independent news sources for people across my constituency. I welcome this government review to help ensure our local newspapers have a viable future in the digital age.”

Since becoming an MP in 2010 Mr Stride as written regular articles for a number of local newspapers on both political and non-political issues. An archive of these articles can be found on his website at www.melstridemp.com.
