ASHBURTON’s First XI will compete in C Division West of the Devon Cricket League in 2017 after a second-placed finish in D Division West was confirmed on Saturday (03/09/16). The club was relegated into the lowest tier of the Devon Cricket League in 2015 and to only take one season to bounce back up has delighted skipper Ashley Berry:

“It’s been a terrific year for the club both on and off the pitch. We are back up to C Division where we belong and with a number of youngsters performing well in our second team the future of the club is very bright indeed.”

Among the first to congratulate the club was Central Devon MP Mel Stride who took his family to watch one of the final games of the season and has played in a friendly match at the club in the past. He said:

“The ground is looking fantastic, particularly the new spectating area, and the club should be very proud of its achievements this year.”

    Colts Manager Marcus West added:

“As well as being a great year for our senior sides, our youth section has flourished this year with more youngsters playing cricket at Ashburton than ever before. Our U13s won the South Devon B Division title and our U11s and U10s both finished in the top half of their tables. For the first time in 14 years we also had a dedicated girls side this year, which competed in two soft-ball tournaments, winning 5 of their 6 games.”
